    A FAMILY BUSINESS

    separatore

The Gambino Family: pragmatic, focused and honest. The authenticity of the Mediterranean passion is what lays down their relations with the territory, the wine and their guests. They love this land and the vineyards and this is what they put in their wines.

They were among the first people to bet on the unknown possibilities of dealing with this land, and today they have learnt a lot from their courage. Here they are, always at the front line: Ms. Maria, Mr. Vittorio, Ms. Maria Grazia, Mr. Delfo and Mr. Francesco.

    OUR CONCEPT OF WINE

    separatore

Wine for us is a journey you get ready for everyday, which never ends. It is a discovery of new colors and tastes different every vintage, which make the experience of working in the vineyards and winery full of unique sensations and values, from the land that grows the grapes to the people that look for it.

The typical character of our wines mirrors that of the territory and comes from a wise care of combining tradition with technology.

    THE STORY OF GAMBINOS

    separatore
Wine is a set of details that only by daily care, positive comparisons among the actors, and passion, becomes an extraordinary experience. We pick grapes by hand because the vine as well as the land needs time and silence.

    1978

The story of the Gambinos can be dated back to 1978 when Mr.Vittorio Raciti bought the property joining several previous owners of today’s winery land. He soon dedicated the land to grape growing, sharing his passion with his wife Ms. Maria Gambino.

    1980 - 1990

From the 80s throughout the 90s months and months of excavating brought to what is now one of the most beautiful terraced estate of north/eastern Etna extending for 8 hectares in c.da Petto Dragone.

    2002

By the perception that wine on Mount Etna could become very popular in 2002 the three descendants, Maria Grazia, Filadelfo e Francesco Raciti Gambino, together with their mother, maria gambino decided to renovate the activity and modernize the wine production processing. There was born the Gambino Winery. The enotourism was the core of the activities boosted by the passion for people and the pleasure for sharing the soul of this beautiful land.

    2008 - 2011

In 2008 we experienced the worst time of the story. Since we were in the Etna Park, a protected area, cellars could not be expanded due to the new regulations… and we had to change location for it. This meant huge investments. And we thought we could not make it. But, since we are used to jump without parachute, the Gambino family believed in the project and obtained private financial supports. Works started and were completed after 3 years. A big and huge work that today is paying back us with an excellent quality of the wine and very low emissions of CO2 since the cellar was escavated underground.

    2012

In 2012 the family decided to build a new a bigger structure to guest more people who started coming from all over the world confirming their excellent capacity of making people feel in Sicily and at home.

    2018

Today the winery includes 25 hectares with grapes and more is to come. The vines of grillo, cabernet and nero d’avola are grown in the area of Caltanissetta, central Sicily; nerello mascalese, nerello cappuccio, cataratto e carricante here 850 m a.s.l. We are the highest winery on the vulcano. The vineyards are managed with a low-profile yield per plant to obtain that balance which is the base to obtain quality wines.

    In the Cellar

    separatore
We use stainless steel vassels at controlled temperature. Also the refinement of the wine is at a controlled temperature. In the cellar we have many fine wooden barrels, carefully selected by our winemaker, to combine tradition and new technologies, thus reducing to the minimum the sulfites and pulling out the best flavors and aromas of our wines.

    insecticides

    separatore

We avoided using traditional insecticides and preferred applying pheromones to protect the grapes as naturally as possible.

    elements

    separatore

We believed in the balance of elements that make all we do and how we do possible.

Our cellar is ten meters underground, dug into the volcanic rock for a natural control of the temperature beyond technology.

    Trustpilot

On the eastern side of the Etna volcano, in the woods of the National Park and facing the sea of Taormina, the Gambino vineyards are a pleasure for your senses and for your heart. A Pleasure for your sight, because they represent one of the best models of Etna vineyards of high altitude: in an exclusive natural environment, at 800 meters above sea level, the vineyards lay on sunny and airy terracing that have a breathtaking panorama.
